Quito, capital of Ecuador, is crossed by an Atlantic-Pacific interoceanic energy channel that would be a kind of dividing line of the South American energy field and the one of Central America.
The energy axis of Quito was highlighted by a citizen of Slovenian origin named Marko Pogačnik, who proposed recovering and correcting the city’s energy through Litopuntura, a system of healing for the earth, similar to that of acupuncture. For this matter, Pogačnik traced on a map of Quito, the route of the monoliths, word that comes from the Greek, mono that means “one” and lithos that means “stone”. The word monolith, therefore, refers both to those geological formations or those human constructions that are characterized by being formed by a single block of stone.
The monoliths were carved by Pogačnik and each one of them is engraved with a symbol called “cosmogram”. Subsequently, the monoliths were placed in the main city parks, as these sites were no longer friendly and safe spaces for families.
11 existing monoliths in the city of Quito
Here we share a list of the eleven monoliths located in different strategic points of the city of Quito and we present some of its features and functions.
- Monolith of ‘El Heraldo’ Park. At this point energies of the cosmic amplitude are attracted to the earth to nourish Quito’s landscape with pure vital forces.
- Monolith of ‘La Carolina’ Park. This monolith is located in a place that helps to harmonize the energies of the mountains and volcanoes that surround Quito.
- Monolith of ‘La Circasiana’ Park. This monolith marks the point of reference of the elemental beings that govern the air over the city. It represents the awareness of the city’s environment.
- Monolith of ‘Matovelle’ Park. This monolith has the function of distributing creative forces throughout the landscape of the city. It can be compared to the throat where the power of the words born. The incripstion of this monolith is the dove of the Holy Spirit.
- ‘Plaza Grande’ Monolith. This monolith is a point of distribution of vital energies towards all directions. As the sun radiates its light throughout the Cosmos, the solar plexus of the Plaza Grande should transmit vital energy to all directions. It is a bronze plaque embedded in pavement behind the monument to Independence.
- ‘El Panecillo’ Monolith (Shungoloma). This monolith is the central point of the city’s power. In this hill that there is huge press center linked to the heart of the earth. The cosmogram on the right side simulates the pulsation of this center. Its function is to generate the vital forces of the country. The cosmogram on the left side connects the masculine energies of the spirit in the heights with the feminine energies of the earth in the depths.
- Monolith of ‘La Magdalena’ Park. This monolith rests on an energy source that enables the fertility of the earth.
- Monolith of ‘Santa Anita 2’ Park. It is located in an area with the potential to open the vision to different dimensions of the earth and the universe. It is a place for interdimensional connections.
- Monolith of ‘Chillogallo’ Park. This monolith located in the south of the city is a complement to the Monolith in the ‘El Heraldo’ Park, and symbolizes the exhalation of the energies of the backbone of Quito.
- ‘Itchimbía’ Monolith. This monolith is not aligned with the backbone of Quito, but it is related to the soul of the city that does not know a precise location but expands everywhere where life pulsates in the body of Quito. This place invites us to contemplate the essence of Quito.
- Monolith of ‘Machángara’ Park (El Sena). This monolith at the foot of Shungoloma, next to the Machángara river, fulfills the third function of the sacred mountain, since it connects it with the Amazon passing through Ilaló and Papallacta.

How to arrive to the monoliths?
From Quito, you can take the Quito Tour Bus that departs every day from 09h00 from the United Nations Boulevard.
During the tour, you will be able to see some of the existing monoliths in the city, including those located in Versailles Street, Matovelle Park, Itchimbia Park, ‘Plaza Grande’, Panecillo and Machángara. The guides of the bus will provide information about the visited monoliths, while you can take pictures.
