The Santa Clara Monastery is one of Quito’s most representative religious monumental architectures. It was founded in 1596 and is considered the second-oldest monastery in the city. In addition, it is the home of the Cloistered Order of the Poor Clares and the most significant female abbey in the town. If you are planning to visit Quito’s historic center, we recommend visiting this emblematic monastery with a fascinating history, a contemporary example of a life of meditation and contemplation by the nuns who live there.
